Windlass can be divided into manual, electric, hydraulic, pneumatic and so on. Today we mainly talk about the electric windlass. The windlass is mainly driven by electric motor. Usually, the windlass and mooring machine form a linkage unit, which is installed in the bow of the ship, and is used for lifting, anchoring and mooring.
Working principle of electric windlass
The motor drives the winch shaft to rotate by two-stage reduction of worm worm gear and gear. On the winch shaft, a pair of sprockets are looped and a pair of teeth clutch is installed with sliding key. The clutch can slide axially through the handle to make it fit or separate from the sprocket. When the anchor is lifted, the clutch and the chain wheel are inlaid, and the belt brake mechanism is relaxed, so that the winch shaft can drive the chain wheel to rotate; when the anchor is dropped, the clutch and the chain wheel are separated, and the belt brake mechanism is relaxed, so that the self weight of the anchor can be used to throw out. When the clutch is disengaged and the chain wheel is braked by the brake belt, the winch shaft only drives the winch drum to rotate, which can be used for stranding. The sprocket shaft of the vertical electric windlass is installed perpendicular to the deck, and the motor and reducer can be arranged under the deck. This not only reduces the floor space, but also helps to protect the motor.
